I am so glad you asked! No really, it’s a great question.
In my practice, I specialize in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), a dynamic and goal-oriented approach designed to help you achieve tangible results quickly. Unlike traditional therapy methods that often delve into past experiences and root causes, SFBT centers on your present situation and future aspirations. We work together to identify your strengths and resources, setting clear, achievable goals to move you towards the life you desire.
During sessions, we will collaboratively focus on solutions and explore problems primarily as a means of creating those solutions. There is a strong focus on asking targeted questions. This positive, forward-thinking approach empowers you to harness your inherent abilities to create lasting change. Although the treatment is generally short, the benefits continue over time because you learn new ways of thinking and behaving.
My clients find that SFBT not only accelerates their progress but also instills a sense of hope and confidence. I believe that some distressing emotions and difficulty are a part of the human condition. When these issue are affecting the “ROSE” areas of functioning it’s time to really do a deep dive. ROSE stands for Relationship, Occupational, Social, or Educational functioning. I do not approach therapy as the process through which you sanitize your life of all unpleasant emotions or circumstances, but a tool through which you get back on the path of living a big, juicy life that you truly enjoy!
I accept insurance and all major credit cards. I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana, Aetna, and Cigna. More insurance plans are being added as we speak, so inquire about whether your plan will soon be accepted. I accept credit cards via a secure portal, Simple Practice.
I also offer reduced fee services through Open Path. Open Path Collective is a nonprofit network of psychotherapy professionals who offer discounted services to members. To be eligible for a need-based reduced fee, you can visit https://openpathcollective.org/ to sign up and request me as your provider. There is a one-time fee of $65 to process your application and you may work with me, or other Open Path therapists, for as long as you need to.
You first schedule a 15 minute consultation.
That consultation will help us decide if I am a good fit for your needs. If so, I will ask for your email address (or both of yours’ if you’re a couple) and send you a link to my online portal so that you can conveniently complete the intake paperwork prior to our first appointment. We will set your first appointment during the consultation call, but it will not be confirmed until your paperwork is complete.
The digital paperwork asks for basic information about you (your address, demographic information, and some personal history). You will also have an opportunity to review and sign off on my business policies and procedures, as well as the informed consent, confidentiality agreements, and financial arrangement. I keep your credit card information securely on file so that the payment process is convenient for both of us.
This is a great question, which depends on your presenting issues and the treatment plan we develop for you. Typically, the counseling process can take anywhere from 8-12 sessions before you accomplish some of your treatment goals. This, of course, depends on your motivation and the efforts that you apply between the sessions.
I recommend that clients begin therapy weekly, as this will allow us to really create an alliance and establish momentum toward your goals. We might then shift to more spaced out sessions as you continue to explore, make progress, and achieve goals. I have found that clients experience more noticeable effects when they engage in more frequent sessions, especially in the beginning.
You may prefer to continue a therapeutic relationship for check-in support after your initial goals are met. I find this beneficial and similar to getting a check-up every now and then with your medical doctor. Why not do that for your mental health or your relationships as well?
You will typically know when you have reached a point where you feel you no longer need to come. Remember, it’s my goal to get you to fire me because you know you are ready! I am very transparent with clients about discussing this and checking in with you to make sure you feel our work is on track with the goals you have established.
The standard session time for couples and individuals is 55 minutes. Please note that sessions will end on time to respect the appointments of other clients.
As much as I want to be flexible every time something comes up, I appreciate your understanding that sessions cancelled less than 24 hours before your appointment time, for any reason, will be charged the full session fee. There is no fee for cancellations made 24 hours or more before your appointment time.
